In its work SOS Children’s Villages upholds the principles that every child should grow up amid love, respect and security, he/she should have access to education and should receive necessary medical care. The family-based childcare system of SOS Children’s Villages returns these children to the most natural form of upbringing – that found within a family.

Children are only taken into a Children’s Village if returning to their biological family is definitely an impossibility. However, in the majority of cases, preventive measures can help settle and solve crisis situations within the families thus enabling the children to stay with their biological family. Support is given to the families in this way with the interest of the child in mind. SOS Children’s Villages are the nucleus of such social projects all over the world which is why around this organisation there are always programmes and centres providing help for destitute families, single mothers and other vulnerable citizens.
