SOS in Russia
T
he interregional Russian committee of SOS Children’s Villages is an information centre which teaches and co-ordinates the spreading of the SOS philosophy and the implementation of the social educational model of Hermann Gmeiner in Russia. The Russian Committee “SOS Children’s Villages” is a member of the international charitable organisation SOS Kinderdorf International, and/which was registered in the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in September, 1994.

The honorary president of the Russian Committee “SOS Children’s Villages”, Elena Burskova, by profession a journalist, learned about SOS Children’s Villages in Austria and studied the SOS model there. Owing to her, this unique model of long-term childcare has now become famous in Russia and has found real implementation in the four SOS Children’s Villages and seven Youth Facilities here.

The Russian Committee’s main objective is the construction of Russian SOS Children’s Villages and the future support of the children. The organisation’s primary task is to help children deprived of parental care. Our greatest concern is the child him/herself, his/her present and future. That is why each village’s birthday is considered to be the day on which the first child came there.
