On the 12th-13th of May, the Russian Football Union, and Volgograd region's football federation held a mini-football tournament between youth teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Oryol SOS Children's Villages, and Children's homes in the Volgograd region. The tournament, devoted to World War II’s Victory Day, was organised on the base of the sports complex at the Volgograd state sports academy. During the tournament's opening ceremony, Roman Masterov on behalf of the RFU welcomed the participants and wished them success. Leonid Lvovich Mityaev, head of the SOS delegation thanked the Volgograd football federation for their welcome and the wonderful facilities provided for the contest. Addressing the children, he said: "May the winner not only be the strongest team, but also friendship!"  All the footballers played brilliantly, and displayed a strong will to win, which the football federation's referees and trainers noticed. The contest's participants supported each other, showed respect to their rivals, and played to the best of their skills and abilities.       The team from SOS Children's Village Lavrovo, who were also the winners of last year's mini-football championship, managed to defend their title! Full of emotion, the team's captain said: "As normal my team played to 110% of their abilities. This can be seen by the score!"   On the very day on which Victory is annually celebrated, an interesting excursion to Mamaev Kurgan was organised for all the tournament's participants. Mamaev Kurgan’s grandeur and might strikes those who see it with admiration for the military feat, and grief for the many thousands of people who lost their lives.   This tournament allowed the children to come a little closer to actual professional football, and also to their dreams! |
